There is a tree in the middle of the forest called the Mediation Treehouse. It has all kinds of pillows around it, and wind chimes hang from it. People gather around the meditation tree daily at sunrise, high noon, and sunset for one hour. Each of the hours is a different meditation, yoga, or ti-chi. Each person who visits the treehouse is transcended to a high level of consciousness. The Treehouse’s particular purpose is different for everyone who visits.
Josephine heard about this treehouse around town. One day, she was out and about when she saw a note on the library door closed from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the treehouse in the forest near the village post office. Josephine thought it was a 0.25-mile walk from here and that she could walk to it. Walking to the Treehouse, she wondered what it would be like. She started to head down there.
When Josephine got to the Mediation Tree House, she saw many community members hanging around—some inside, some outside. Some were sitting on chairs, some on pillows, and some on mats. Mrs. Glass, the librarian, saw Joesphine looking around and took a chair so Joesphine could sit. Josephine wasn’t sure how this all went. She wanted more of a holistic lifestyle to help with her cerebral palsy. Josephine has been doing so research on this. She read how tai chi and yoga can help with cerebral palsy.
When the bell rang at high noon, everyone sat around the tree, and the teachers were in the Tree House, viewable to everyone. They started with 45 minutes of yoga. One teacher did yoga, and the other did adaptable yoga for those who needed it.
Josephine tried every pose as if she had been doing it for years. In the middle of the yoga class, she started feeling her muscles loose. This feeling was miserable for Josephine, as her muscles were so tight from her disability. After the 45 minutes of yoga, Josephine felt terrific.
The last 15 minutes were a meditation cool-down. Josephine had to research meditation and start a meditation practice before bed, but she was new to meditation and wasn’t fully aware of how to benefit from it. Being here today made Josephine want to know more about meditation and the lifestyle that encompasses all of what the last hour was.
After her afternoon, Josephine felt so enlightened. She started walking home but thought about returning to the Mediation tree; she just felt drawn to it. When she got back, she just sat there, and there was nothing in her mind. Josephine took her phone out and started writing down her feelings.
An hour passed, and she realized that it was getting late. Josephine got up to start going home, but the meditation instructor was there as she turned around. He introduced himself as David. He said he had never seen her here before. Josephine told him her name and said she would see signs around town for “The Mediation Tree” but never thought about coming until today.
Would Josephine have a while to return home, as it was getting late? She asked David if she could schedule a talk so Josephine could learn more about meditation, yoga, and ti-che. David said that my real job is as a professor at the college, and I have hours Tu and Th from 12-3 pm. Here is my email; just email me, and we can schedule a time. Josephine said thank you and went on her way.
