Twininge, Vermont, is a picturesque town near Bennington. It became a tourist destination in the fall due to the state’s leaf-peeping season. While living there, you can volunteer on weekends in the village part of Twinge called Starlight. The community gets together to help with the tourists, setting up booths and fun activities. They have hikes, apple picking, candy-making, face-painting, tag sales, and more.

The Twininge festive season runs every weekend from the end of September to mid-November. Each weekend has a theme and different performances, such as plays and music events. Since Josephie opened Working with your disability,  the non-profit has hosted a talent show on one of the weekends to showcase its members’ abilities.

The Working With Your Disability talent was one of the festive highlights as it doesn’t just showcase members’ talents, but it’s also one of four fun raisiers in a year. Working With Your Disability has four fun raises a year, the Fall Festival being the largest. The non-profit spends all summer getting ready for the weekend. It also includes members, families, workers, volunteers, and hours of rehearsing, putting sets and costumes together. The talent show repeats through the weekend with new acts each day.  The show talent brings most of the money for the non-profit. Along with the talent show, the non-profit also sells activities that the members have made.

During the festive, there are also horse trots on the trails to explore the town, an art area where guests can pick from several activities, and many games they can choose from. There is a 5k on the first weekend to kick off the festive, a flea market every Sunday; the last weekend of the festive is a dinner and dance in the barn on Friday night for the families; on Saturday, the kids 8 to 18 are invited to sleep in the barn where they entertained by games, movie, face paints and more. The kids and staff get up at 6 am to make a large brunch for families and tourists.  The brunch is $10.00 a person. Their ticket includes an all-you-can pancake, eggs, toast, bacon, home fries, tea, coffee, and juice from 8 am to 1 pm.

After brunch, the kids clean up and return to their families to prepare for the rest of the day.  All the money raised from the festivities goes into the town to help schools, the food bank, the boys’ and girls’ clubs, and other organizations in and around Twinings.
