With each passing year, that dark and dreary day gets a little brighter when I look up. The memory of the young kids we once came rushing back. But unlike that gloomy day long ago, a smile now crosses my face—a smile born from a special friendship. A smile that was so hard to find 30 years ago has become one of the most meaningful moments of the day.
I see smiles, peace, and sunflowers everywhere I go on what I now think of as our special friendship day.
A piece of my heart will always live in that moment. Time seems to stand still on that day, even though life keeps moving. Remembering two young children who shared a bond like no other will always stay with me. A piece of her heart will forever see that young man and smile.
These days, when I think upon this day, there is a peace and a deep gratitude for the special friendship I was blessed to have—one that can never be replaced. A piece of my heart will always remain in that moment. Time always feels suspended on this day, no matter how many years have passed.
It is a piece of time I will never forget—
our special friendship.
