Routine has always played an important role in my life.

Living with a disability means routine can be both a comfort and a necessity. While I’ve always valued my ability to be flexible, I’ve learned that flexibility works best when it’s supported by some structure.

When my routine is interrupted for too long, I notice the impact. I feel less motivated, less productive, and more disconnected from my rhythm. Routine helps me stay grounded—it keeps me moving forward, even on challenging days.

One of the most important parts of my routine is movement. Going to the gym helps me stay connected to my body and my independence. When weather or circumstances make that impossible, I’ve learned to adapt rather than stop.

Sometimes that means working out at home. Other times it means staying active through housework or gentle movement. The routine may change, but the intention remains the same.

This is what I’ve learned: routine doesn’t have to be rigid to be meaningful. It can bend. It can adjust. It can meet you where you are.

Today, I’m grateful for the rhythm that routine brings to my life—and for the resilience that allows me to adapt when that rhythm shifts.
